To 30 and beyond…

Posted on Updated on

A birthday letter to my best friend Cassandra

I still remember one hot noon when you were pulling your wheeled bag uphill to Pinagbuklod area and I was following you. This was the time you showed me where your house was.

It was the start of a very unlikely friendship, ano? Somewhere between that moment and now, there were best and funny memories that we can only recall. Some of it you can recall vividly while I can only remember how I felt that time. There were letters too kasi we don’t have social media naman that time. And too much drama hahahaha but that’s what made our friendship colorful.

Back then, we’re so idealistic. We thought we’ll had it sorted out na by the time we reach 30 only to find out that there are bigger responsibilities and questions for us to answer like a whole new level of exam and quizzes and recitation. Only this time, walang bura-bura and pretensions hahaha. We have to own up to all of our decisions both good and bad.

There’s a Portuguese word called saudade and it is how I feel right now not only for those moments but for all of you there in the Philippines. Google says it’s a sad state of intense longing for someone or something that is absent. How I wish there’s a magic door where I can just visit y’all in an instant like the one Doraemon has. Pero ayun nga wala eh hahahaha so salamat na lang sa lahat. Chz!

You’re now celebrating your 30th birthday and I believe there’s a lot of reason for you to be glad. I wish you peace, wisdom, strength, and all the love you deserve, mafriend. Also I’d like to say, like Steve, “Look at you… Look at what you have done and all you have accomplished… Whatever it is you’re doing, it’s working.” And I’m so proud proud of what you’ve become now.

At this moment, we’re still walking uphill and we both have our bags. Yours is wheeled and has a Sylveon design on it. That bag seems to carry wonderful stuff.

Let us continue the climb… cheers to your 30th and beyond.

Your Best Friend,

Chai
